CPL 2020 Teams Previews:
Below is the details overview and analysis of the teams that are playing in CPL 2020
1. Guyana Amazon Warriors Preview:
The Guyana Amazon Warriors reached the Final of CPL 2019 and were beaten by Barbados Tridents by 27 runs. Guyana Amazon had a very good tournament last year and they would definitely look to repeat the same feat in this season also. They want to go one step ahead and this time look to clinch the title and trophy. The most important thing to note about Guyana Amazon Warriors is that although they were able to reach the final five out of six times, but failed to win the title. They can be considered as one the most unlucky teams in the tournament history so far.
The team has batsmen like Shimron Hetymyer and Ross Taylor who can play a massive role with the bat for their team. These two batsmen can play innings that can produce some great results for the team. The main strength of Guyana Amazon Warriors team will depend upon these two batsmen.
The wicket-keeper Nicholas Pooran and batsmen Sherfane Rutherford can do a wonderful job with the bat for their team in CPL 2020 season. The team will be looking for consistent performance with the bat from these players.
The strongest pillar in the bowling department of Guyana’s team will be again Imran Tahir who can change the game course with his bowling even at the age of above 40. Qais Ahmad and Ashmead Nedd can also do superb bowling to restrict the opposition team at low scores.
Guyana Amazon Warriors Key Players:
- Shimron Hetymyer
- Nicholas Pooran
- Imran Tahir
2. Trinbago Knight Riders Preview
Trinbago Knight Riders is the most successful team in CPL history so far who are able to won the tournament two times , once in 2017 and then again in 2018. Last year they missed a spot in the Final as they lost to Barbados Tridents in the qualifier match. They will be expected to do much better this season and try to reach near the final. Trinbago Knight Riders have no shorage of batting as well as bowling talent as they have many players who can perform consistently and score big runs for the team when needed.
The team will depend upon Darren Bravo and Lendl Simmons to get quick runs for the team. These two batsmen are very good options for the team at the top order. These two batsmen can put pressure on the opposition bowlers from the start and can destroy their line and length.
The presence of Captain Kieron Pollard himself, Colin Munro and Dwayne Bravo make the Trinbago Knight Riders team a formidable side. Sikandar Raza is also a good selection into the team and he can also handle the pressure well in the middle orders and give some worthy contributions with the bat as well as ball.
In bowling Sunil Narine forms the backbone of the team’s bowling attack and can felt the immediate impact on the batting of opposition team. Dwayne Bravo is equally capable of bowling efficiently and there will be no easy runs to take away from these bowlers in the Trinbago Knight Riders side. Fawad Ahmed can also play the role of frontline bowler in the team.
Trinbago Knight Riders Key players
- Kieron Pollard
- Dwayne Bravo
- Sunil Narine
3. St. Lucia Zouks Preview:
St. Lucia Zouks ended up last season of CPL very poorly as they were the 2nd last team in the points table. They were able to win just 3 matches out of the 6. Hopefully they would not perform like last year’s season and would look to put more efforts from the start of the Caribbean Premier League 2020 season.
Captain Darren Sammy, Colin Ingram and Kimani Melius are some of the few names that can do something great for the Zouks with the batting in this season. But the man who will have the massive role to play with the bat for his team is Andre Fletcher. He is performing brilliantly for his international team in recent time and appeared as a real danger for the opposition batsmen. He will definitely have to play an instrumental role with the bat. If he performs consistently then the St. Lucia Zouks will have better chances to do good in CPL 2020 season.
Rilee Rossow and Mohammad Nabi have pretty good experience with them and they can convert the initial start into big scores when needed. These two batsmen can be just superb to see batting on their day.
The fortunes of St. Lucia Zouks success in Caribbean Premier League 2020 season will depend a lot on the bowling of Kesrick Williams. He can ball superbly regardless of the nature of the wicket and break opposition teams back by taking early wickets. Anrich Nortje can also be a cause of concern with his bowling for the opposition and has the ability to contain even top class batsmen.
St. Lucia Zouks Key Players
- DarrentSammy
- Andre Fletcher
- Mohammad Nabi
4. St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots Preview:
With five wins out of ten matches played in last season of Caribbean Premier League 2019, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots got 10 points and stood at the 3rd place in that season. Their performance in the last was not too bad though. Hope they would analyse their last year mistakes and try to work on those issues.
St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots will look to open the innings with Evin Lewis and Chris Lynn. Their batting reliance in the top order is pretty much clear in this season of CPL. These two batsmen are without any doubt are going to be very hard at the opposition bowlers and would not give any chance to bowlers anyway. Evin Lewis and Chris Lynn have all shots in their book especially for T20 Cricket and they too have the class to dominate with the batting. Apart from that they have performed consistently in the T20 format in different leagues.
Rassie van der Dussen and Wicket Keeper Denesh Ramdin are also top class batsmen that are included in the squad of St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots and they can take up the batting responsibility when required.
Sheldon Cottrell will have to do the major task of bowling for the team and he needs assistance from other bowlers like Sohail Tanvir, Ish Sodhi and Alzarri Joseph.
St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots Key Players:
- Evin Lewis
- Chris Lynn
- Denesh Ramdin
- Sheldon Cottrell
5. Barbados Tridents Preview:
The champions of 2019 season ie. Barbados Tridents had a decent tournament in the CPL 2019 season before the final as they won five out of the ten matches played in the league stage, but they were able to clinch the trophy by beating Guyana Amazon Warriors. Although most of the things did not go well for the Tridents in the league stage, they would like to execute their plan well by making more useful strategies this time.
The top order batting slot will be filled up by batsmen like Alex hales and Johnson Charles for Barbados Tridents in Caribbean Premier League 2020. These two batsmen can do some serious damage to the opposition team’s bowling attack from the very beginning. A clinical performance with the bat will be expected from these two batsmen.
Wicket Keeper Shai Hope also has scored big runs in the last couple of years and has been fascinating with his batting display.
The presence of Jonathan Carter and Marcus Stoinis gives great advantage to the Barbados Tridents. Marcus Stoinis is a brilliant all rounder and it will be very good to watch him in both batting as well as bowling department.
Captain Jason Holder will also have a big role to play with both batting and bowling.
Barbados Tridents also have a superior bowling attack as compared to most of the other teams that are participating in CPL 2020. Barbados Tridents have Rashid Khan in their bowling attack who can contain any batting lineup. Rashid Khan is at the peak of his career and every time he plays in a match, something special is expected from him. Ashley Nurse is also more than a decent bowler and he is also not giving easy opportunities to the opposition batsmen to score runs against him.
Barbados Tridents Key players:
- Rashid Khan
- Jason Holder
- Shai Hope
- Johnson Charles
6. Jamaica Tallawahs Preview:
Despite having some big names in their side , Jamaica Tallawahs are not able to perform as expected. A team that is filled up with some powerful hitters like Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite and Rovman Powell should do much better. Hopeful the team perform better than previous seasons.
For Jamaica Tallawahs, Andre Russell will be the powerhouse of the batting and getting past him will always be a tough task for any kind of bowler. It would be of no surprise to see him hitting from the very first ball. He has also displayed his glimpses of brilliance with the ball in big T20 tournaments like IPL also.
The presence of Carlos Brathwaite also made a big difference in the Jamaica Tallawahs batting strength compared to other teams. Rovman Powerll and Wicket Keeper Chadwick Walton can also lay the foundation of big scores for their team, but they just need to play their natural game.
Jamaica Tallawahs have Tabraiz Shamsi and Sandeep Lamichhane as the two main bowlers in their bowling lineup who can put brakes on the opposition batsmen’s run scoring abilities.
Jamaica Tallawahs Key Players:
- Andre Russell
- Rovman Powell
- Carlos Brathwaite
- Chadwick Walton
