The first ODI of Women Ashes was a big disappointment for England Women as the team faced a 2 wickets defeat against Australia Women. England top order produced a flop show with the bat and the
score of their top order, Tammy Beaumont, Amy Ellen Jones, Sarah Taylor (wk) and Heather Knight (c) read 16, 0, 1 and 0 respectively in the 1st ODI. Only Natalie Sciver showed some stand by making
64 runs. She, along with small contributions of lower order batsmen like Katherine Brunt and Laura Marsh helped the team to reach some respectable total of 177 runs. But the total was not enough
for the England Women bowlers to defend on. A good batting performanc from the top order batsmen especially Sarah Taylor and Heather Knight can provide strength to the team in the 2nd ODI, so
these two will have huge role to play with the bat.
AUS Women Team
Although Australia Women won the 1st ODI, but still the win didn’t come with ease. The team had to make a tough effort to chase the target of 177. Only Alyssa Healy dominated with 64 runs. A much
better batting show will be needed from Nicole Bolton and Meg Lanning to solve the problems in the team’s batting.
Sophie Ecclestone and Laura Marsh didn’t let the England Women team to free hands in the 1st ODI and similiar start with the ball will be expected from these bowlers.
